So, I was perusing the internet and happened upon a blog about furniture. Like, design furniture. Like, fashion design for clothes, only for the stuff that you sit on. Like Fashion design, it is all done by artistes who think a little too much of themselves, and their prices show it. Also like fashion design, most of the creations scale nicely between "silly" and "outrageous", covering "simply unusable" very nicely in the middle. The general idea seems to be making really outlandish stuff that costs a fortune, and then hoping that mass-market furniture makers pick up your styles in a more utilitarian fashion and make you famous. There were a few cool ideas, both in aesthetics and functionality, but the fast majority look uncomfortable, inefficient, and not very aesthetically pleasing.
Then I came upon this:

It's not for sale, sadly, and certainly isn't going to be mass-marketed any time soon. But it gives me an incredible inspiration for my first big woodworking project once I get a place of my own. It would have to spin on its center axis, of course, and would be more colorful or more natural looking. Maybe a different wood for each drawer front...*dreams*

As is my wont when I get sick of NPR, I've been listening to books on tape whenever I go driving. My most recent audible entertainment (which I put in during lunch break at work today and listened to for the better part of an hour, and then again on the way home) has been a compilation of four Sherlocke Holmes stories, adapted for radio (by the BBC, I believe). So, to be fair, they're not really books on tape at all. They're radio adaptations of books. Which were then taped.
Regardless of what the hell they are, though, Sherlocke Holmes continues to have the effect on me that he's always had: a combination of awe, envy, delight, and perhaps just the slightest bit of a fanboyish crush. It's not serious, though: I'm shipping Holmes/Watson a little too hard for that. Holmes and Watson were doing the "oddly overly affectionate" thing before Jack and Daniel made it cool.
Also, Moriarty. The man they have voicing Moriarty on this (I'll look his name up on the tape next time I'm in the car) is both brilliant and perfectly suited to the role. He's like this perfect, effete, well-educated British gentlemen who constantly sounds as though he's deeply annoyed or offended by something by doing a damned fine job of being polite and effete anyway, because to lower himself to expressing his frustration would be to sink to a level so base as not to be worth thinking about. But sometimes, this tiny hint of Snidely-Whiplash-Meets-The-Master brilliant EVIL comes through, only for a moment, and his voice just gives me goosebumps.
So, in short: BBC 3, NPR 1.

Alyssa left today for her week vacation with her family. Last night we had a fight. It ended well.
I've come to realize in the six months I've dated her just how much she means to me. I don't know what to really say about this, because it's not very explainable.
Russian Vodka now has vitamin C.
I have priorities, you know?

Once upon a time, there was such a thing as a "fixed interest rate."
I miss those days. I miss them dearly.
In other news, I have sent in my application. Soon, if all goes well, I will owe a massive faceless corporation eleven thousand dollars. If all goes poorly...well, I guess I won't. But if that happens then Housing will go nuts on my kidneys.
Now, I'm sure many of you college-friends of mine have taken out loans as well. This is the first one I've taken out that's not a Federal loan offered due to financial need, and it's the first one that's in excess of three thousand dollars, much less ELEVEN GEES. This is a quantity of money which I will be desperately trying to pay off for a decade or more to come.
So I have this to say to you, professorial and administrative staff of '08-'09:
"You better bloody well EARN it."

Pro: The time is ripe for optimism. Things click such that it is suddenly less of a struggle to feel happy instead of sad or angry. Oddly enough, loosing control of my car for five seconds on a mud slick might have helped with this.

Well, there are a few people that I made a foolish promise to; that being that I would post no less often than once a week, maybe 10 days at the outside.
( I am a filthy liar. )
And thanks for watching our show!
